WE MADE IT!

Yesterday, the five of us Gustavus students, packed our bags and set off on a journey of a lifetime. For the next six weeks we will be student teaching in Barrow, Alaska. We left Minneapolis on Wednesday, April 9th around 9:00 flying to Anchorage, AK. Here we had a six hour layover before hopping on another plane headed first for Fairbanks. This plane took us to Fairbanks, Prudhoe Bay, and then finally to Barrow. Deb, our student teaching placement coordinator, met us in the Barrow airport with open arms. It was nice to see a familiar face! We left the airport and headed to Iliagvik College; this will be our home away from home during our time in Barrow. We had our first meal in the college cafeteria - which was delicious!

Tonight we will be going to learn some cultural dances and then get a good night sleep before our first day in the school tomorrow! We will only be at school for a half day as this weekend marks the Piuraagiaqta, Barrow's Spring Festival.  We are looking forward to partaking in the many activities, including doing some dog sledding!
